Proving that wine coolers and felony charges will not be the end of her, comedian Paula Poundstone is back on the road doing what she does best: breaking up crowds with her particular brand of hilarity. Still sporting her signature necktie, Poundstone is touring for the first time since child endangerment charges stemming from a drunken binge threatened to end her career. She's clean and sober and has publicly admitted to her drinking problems. "Now we move on," she says. Whether audiences will support her with laughter remains to be seen, but chances are Poundstone will address her mistakes with humor in her show, provocatively titled Unauthorized Biography. Poundstone performs seven shows through Sunday, August 10, beginning at 8:30 tonight at the new-and-improved Improv, 3390 Mary St., Coconut Grove. Tickets range from $20 to $25. Call 305-441-8200. Friday August 8Neat freak, cereal eater, Superman lover -- some of the things we distinctly remember about the character comedian Jerry Seinfeld played on his long-lived sitcom (1990 to 1998), supposedly based on him. A minor case of arrested development back then, he was a freewheeling single guy, flitting from woman to woman yet always remaining a loyal friend to the coterie of weirdoes that surrounded him. But Seinfeld had his own quirks too. To wit: his aversion to his shoelaces touching the floor of a public bathroom. And that was just the beginning. Now Seinfeld is supposedly a grownup, married with a wife and two kids, and invariably taking a lot more material from his domesticated life. Get ready for jokes about strollers, snugglies, snot -- you name it. Seinfeld does his thing at 7:00 and 9:30 tonight and tomorrow at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, 201 SW Fifth Ave., Fort Lauderdale. Tickets, if any are left, cost $49, $65, and $80. Call 954-462-0222. (NK)

Saturday August 9Whether he's pummeling an opponent like a mad punching machine or skillfully boxing his way through a dramatic twelve-round title fight, world junior lightweight champion Acelino "Popo" Freitas has earned respect in the ring. In fact the 26-year-old Brazilian fighter has never lost in 33 professional bouts, including nine successful title fights. Tonight he'll be defending his belt against hard-hitting Argentine sensation Jorge "La Hiena" Barrios, himself representing with a 39-1-1 record, which includes 29 knockouts. This World Championship Fight Card promises to be one of the most dramatic, high-profile events to be seen in Miami. The night includes eight other fights, four of which have a title at stake. The co-feature fight has welterweight champion Teddy Reid of Maryland facing Elio Ortiz from Venezuela. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. at the Miami Arena, 721 NW First Ave. Tickets range from $25 to $150. Call 305-530-4400. (JCR)

Sunday August 10As the creepy guy at the outdoor mall or the creepier guy walking down the beach with the albino serpent slithering around his chest evinces, snakes are versatile pets who can be taken from their fish tanks and led on walks around town. Okay, maybe it's a little tough to get them on a leash, but they are sort of portable, especially the little skinny ones. If you're lucky enough to have a snake, you might want to bring him to Snake Day, going on from noon to 4:00 p.m. at the Miami Museum of Science and Space Transit Planetarium (3280 S. Miami Ave.). While you listen to experts dole out advice and check out a snake showcase, your scaly buddy can compete in contests for prizes. Admission is ten dollars; bring a snake and get in free (permits are required for protected or venomous species). Call 305-646-4440. (NK)

Monday August 11According to its press release, the Sierra Club Miami Group has a surprise up its sleeve tonight during its regular meeting. Along with a slideshow presentation and lecture by representatives of Wildlife Rescue of Dade County, they will offer a "live animal display of a nonreleasable native." Could it be cocaine kingpin Willy Falcon? Probably not, but the group promises to fascinate nature lovers; the unveiling is being kept under wraps. Sierra Club members are socializing and educating the public about environmental problems that could affect everyone. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. at the Coral Gables Women's Club, 1001 E. Ponce De Leon Blvd. Admission is free. Call 305-667-7311. (JCR)

Tuesday August 12Video of talking poodles, people growing hair via strange and stinky remedies like garlic, and playing the harmonica with the nose. Oh my gosh, the Florida Moving Image Archive has gotten hold of your family's home movies! Close, but not quite. The local film fanatics, who do collect all manner of video and film matter from the public, have just dug around their vaults to find the weirdest and wackiest clips ever. They've arranged them into a series of four, two-hour programs called Summer Camp. Don't be surprised if you do see yourself on the big screen when the stuff unspools at 1:00 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays through Thursday, August 28, at Miami-Dade Public Library, 101 W. Flagler St. Admission is free. Call 305-375-1505. (NK)

Wednesday August 13In your mind, the perfect accompaniment to a greasy Chinese pupu platter is an icy cold beer. But the fine fare at Miami's newest Chinese eatery, Pao, deserves better than a bottle of Old Milwaukee or even a Tsing Tao. Wine is the way to go. But what to pair with those varied flavors? A spicy white, a bold red, some sparkling champagne? The American Institute of Wine & Food Dinner, going on at 7:00 tonight at Pao restaurant in the Clinton Hotel (825 Washington Ave., Miami Beach), will get you straight on the proper grape. Josh Moulton, Pao's director of operations and a certified sommelier, will introduce you to his picks that perfectly match the dishes you'll get to feast on during a multicourse dinner. Expect goodies such as pork shumai, lobster with ginger and scallion, and seared sirloin with black pepper. Admission is $65 per person. Call 305-663-9641 for reservations. (NK)
