Florida's Mean Season

Overriding minimum wage guarantees at MIA

Prieguez, along with other local state legislators and Miami-Dade Mayor Alex Penelas, last week pleaded with Gov. Jeb Bush to veto the anti-living wage law, to no avail. "This law is unfair," Penelas ranted during a press conference at MIA. "These are the same people who said unions would destroy America and Social Security would create a leisure community living off government!"

Ise fears that Attkisson and Constantine will try again to eliminate the rest of the county's living wage ordinance during next year's legislative session. "This is a systematic effort," Ise warns. "They can't beat us at the local level so they'll keep going back to Tallahassee."
