Mean Green Musical

Get ready for some more Seymour and Audrey II

Thrusday 5/22

A pretty girl. A meek florist. A bloodthirsty plant? Must be Little Shop of Horrors! The Actors' Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre (280 Miracle Mile, Coral Gables) presents a test run of the widely popular Alan Menken and Howard Ashman musical prior to taking it to Broadway this August. Connie Grappo directs the award-winning cast, including Alice Ripley as Audrey and Hunter Foster as Seymour. Based on the 1960 Roger Corman movie, the upbeat black comedy features Seymour the shopkeeper, who enlists the help of an exotic plant to win love interest Audrey's heart ... and discovers the plant has ghoulish designs of its own. Showtimes are 8:00 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, 7:00 p.m. Sunday, with 2:00 p.m. weekend matinees. Tickets cost $35 and $40. The musical runs through Sunday, June 15. Call 305-444-9293. -- By Margaret Griffis Sunday 5/25 Both Sides Now

Never before have such heavyweight names in Mexico's popular music shared the stage as they will tonight at 7:30 at the Miami Arena (721 NW First Ave). Juan Gabriel (above) and Marco Antonio Solis are major sellers on both sides of the border. While the former blends mariachi, ranchero, and ballads, and the latter focuses on the romantic side of the grupero music popular in the Southwest, it's clear that, at least in Miami, Marco Antonio Solis (former leader of popular band Los Bukis) will open for Juan Gabriel, the legendary Mexican crooner. The show follows up last year's successful pairing of Dominican Juan Luis Guerra and Venezuelan Ricardo Montaner. It's uncertain if Juanga and El Buqui will dare to share a song or two, but bet it's going to be colorful either way. Tickets range from $45 to $79. Call 305-530-4400. -- Javier Andrade Saturday 5/24 Current SoundsElectric Design Disasters may sound like the lovely fire-prone mess your friendly electrician left you with after he "rewired" your house. In this case it's the name of an equally incendiary multimedia happening that aims to delve into interactivity between visual and performance artists. On the bill: four internationally known Miami-based musical acts -- noise trio Monotract, fresh off a U.S. tour; Schematic machine manipulator Otto Van Schirach; Schematic digi-showman Dino Felipe; and Team Shadetek and soon-to-be Schematic recording artist Danny L. Doors open at 9:30 p.m. at Performance Space 742, 1165 SW 6th St. Admission is $7. Call 305-324-0585. -- Nina Korman
