Deep South

Layo and Bushwacka break beats U.K. style

The dance music scene, we're often told, is much better in Europe. As the stereotype goes, it's far different and of much higher quality than the secondhand tracks we're forced to listen to here. And what of Layo and Bushwacka? The two Londonites are well-known producers on the international breaks scene, easily traversing among the house, trance, jungle, and techno camps. But they were also savvy enough to pay tribute to U.S. dance music innovators on "Deep South," a monster hit from three years ago that channeled the American South via beautiful Southern England. Perhaps, then, they come to town not only out of hopes of securing a fat paycheck, but also out of respect.

More About

Of course, there is the matter of promoting their most recent album, last year's Night Works,an atmospheric affair that expertly conjures images of late-night dalliances amid shimmering pools of water. Its killer track is the evocative "Love Story," Layo and Bushwacka's take on romance, breakbeat style.
