Going deep with self-hypnosis

So you've tried yoga, capoeira, plastic surgery, and shopping therapy but still, life stresses you out. Trust Martha Stewart on this one, tension is not a good thing. The Women's Institute of Total Health In Nature (WITHIN), a nonprofit alternative health center in South Miami, offers you the tool you'll need to control your daily stressors from the inside out. The group offers a self-hypnosis seminar led by psychologist Dr. Roslyn Pass. Picture those last ten vanity pounds melting off your thighs. Visualize clean and smoke-free lungs. Create world peace. Okay, that last one may be stretching the limits, but it's a start. In the meantime you can learn a new tool to help you relax, release, and get in touch with your inner self. The results are awesome. Your journey begins tonight at 7:30 at the WITHIN Wellness Center, 7800 Red Rd., Suite 325. Admission is $15. Call 305-668-0570.--JUAN CARLOS RODRIGUEZ

Good Sport

His career as a talk-show host may have failed miserably, but no one can deny the fact that Earvin "Magic" Johnson is a charismatic guy. The celebrated former Los Angeles Lakers point guard publicly admitted to being HIV-positive in 1991 and retired from the National Basketball Association. Yet his winning ways still got him voted into the 1992 All-Star Game, where he earned Most Valuable Player honors. Off the court, Johnson, who has remained remarkably robust, is an entrepreneur, developer, and HIV/AIDS educator. Beginning at 3:30 p.m. he'll join a different team in Miami -- one made up of healthcare professionals -- to conduct an informative program about HIV/AIDS at the Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church, 245 NW Eighth St. A health fair follows at 5:00 p.m. Admission is free. Call 888-212-4684 to register or log on to www.magicandhiv.com.-- Nina Korman

Sightless Sipping

Any wino or spring breaker will tell you: Drinking is fun. And it can get even better when you're blindfolded. The savvy folks at Wolfe's Wine Shoppe (124 Miracle Mile, Coral Gables) are well aware of this. That's why from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. they say it will be "just you and the juice" during a Blind Tasting. Labels will be concealed; vintages and prices will be kept secret. The only thing that won't be covered is your eyes. Sorry! Wine snobs, stay home. Admission is ten dollars and includes a Spiegelau wine glass. Call 305-445-4567.-- Nina Korman
