The best crossbred bands in the city will mix it up at Cielo Lounge (66 SW Sixth St.) with Latin rhythms, funky grooves, electronica, rap, roots revivals, and other refried Afro beats at the Miami/New York Latin Funk Festival. The Spam Allstars, Lee Williams & the Square Egg, El Sacerdote de la Rumba y su Grupo La Fe, and Roberto Poveda y Los Cronopios come together to celebrate the 21st-century sound of Miami. Starting at 10:00 p.m. our own irreverent eclectics will be joined by New York's salsa dura DJ GeoLeche and Jose Conde y su Ola Fresca, whose "uprooted" Cuban sound is supplied by a ten-member orchestra. The festival will also feature an art exhibition with works by LEBO, Dustin Orlando, Francesco Locastro, Clutch, Brian Sensebe, and others. Dueling Divas
Son sizzles in staged scandal

Diosas de Papel, Pedro Roman's musical opening at Miami-Dade County Auditorium (2901 W. Flagler St.), is the show-biz equivalent of meringue frosting. The plot is sticky-sweet like the stiff stuff on most Cuban wedding cakes. Atop the tiered extravaganza sits a dolled-up diva. In this case it's a pair of show-biz queens who love the SAME MAN despite the fact they are mother and daughter! With more than 28 original songs, the show promises an over-the-top production that will leave Miami drama queens happily aching. Like a thick coat of mascara, Roman uses a play-within-a-play à la Valley of the Dolls to milk the melodrama. Showtimes are 8:00 p.m. Saturday and 3:00 p.m. Sunday. Tickets range from $15-$50. Spirited Moves

Good vs. evil or righteousness vs. unrighteousness: That's what the Hindu text the Bhagavad Gita (Absolute Truth) -- part of the Indian heroic narrative the Mahabharata (Great War) -- is all about. Comprising words of wisdom and responsibility that Lord Krishna imparted to the warrior Arjuna before he entered the battlefield, the epic poem is also the world's longest. Those not inclined to read the text can watch it come alive this Sunday at the Hollywood Central Performing Arts Center (1770 Monroe St.) when at 6:00 p.m. the Association of Performing Arts of India presents Los Angeles's 25-member Shakti Dance Company in a multimedia musical performance.
