Spirit in the Sky

From desert to studio to stage, Electric Skychurch falls back into techno's warm embrace

Lumb describes the band's new material as more bass-heavy, rock-influenced, and song-oriented than past efforts. Noted producer Clif Brigden (John Digweed, Thomas Dolby) lent assistance. "In the past, I think the local environment was influencing us," Lumb says. "The songs we're writing now are about our experiences on the road."

That's a place Lumb can now call home, and the fans are the neighbors who stay up all night and listen to loud music. And Lumb wouldn't have it any other way: "You're working; they're partying. You're working to help them party. It becomes a whole different game."
