Nina,

Dave doesn't do phone interviews. He does do e-mail interviews, but the interview must be published as strict Q&As, printed without embellishment or elaborate introductions.

Thirty-year-old Dave Eggers is the author of last year's best-selling memoir A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius. Based on his life as a 21-year-old college senior who, during five weeks, loses both of his parents to cancer and becomes the guardian of his eight-year-old brother, the book, his literary debut, was hailed by critics as a brilliant postmodern twist on the conventions of the genre. Vintage Books recently released three versions of the tome in paperback, bearing, at Egger's insistence, three different back covers printed upside down and a 15,000-word corrective appendix, titled "Mistakes We Knew We Were Making." Currently living in San Francisco, Eggers is the founder of the literary journal McSweeney's and has begun publishing works under the imprint McSweeney's Books.
