Perhaps it's time to give in, simply to admit squeaky-clean Coral Gables is the place for blues in Miami-Dade. The proof for this admission comes this weekend during the Coral Gables Bluesfest, which will be held in and around Satchmo (60 Merrick Way, Coral Gables; 305-774-1883). For the first five years of the fest, which began in 1995, Satchmo owner Harald Neuweg hosted the event outside his little Austrian restaurant Mozart Stube, just a few blocks away from the new site. This year the block party starts off strong Friday afternoon with hometown boys Iko-Iko, Junior Drinkwater and the Thirst Quenchers, and the Shack Daddys warming up for Mississippi's gritty Big Jack Johnson. During two sets from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 to 11:30 p.m., Johnson will show us why he appeared in the acclaimed documentary Deep Blues. Other headliners include Little Mike and the Tornadoes on Saturday and Gary Primich on Sunday. The event will run from 3:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. on Friday; 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. on Saturday; and 1:00 to 9:30 p.m. on Sunday. The entrance fee is $6 per day, or $15 for a weekend pass.

Taking their inspiration from the hard urban streets rather than the Mississippi Delta are rappers Prodigy and Havoc, better know as Mobb Deep. The duo, who brought us 1995's gold disc The Infamous, will be in the house at G-Spot (1203 Washington Ave., Miami Beach; 305-673-5959) on Monday for Faces, a new hip-hop night. Mobb is pushing last year's Murda Music, their latest release, and will rap out its thug manifesto about guns, pot, 'hos, and all things gangsta. Doors open at 10:00 p.m. The cover charge is $20 in advance or $25 at the door.

Whether you're a player, blues picker, or clubgoer, you gotta look good. Level (1235 Washington Ave., Miami Beach; 305-532-1525) hosts Fashion Week of the Americas April 5 through 8 so you can pay homage to those who keep you beautiful. Festivities culminate Saturday with a fashion show, cocktail reception, and ceremony to present a lifetime achievement in fashion award to Oscar de la Renta. See Level's club listing for other designers scheduled to appear. Saturday's grand bash begins at 7:00 p.m.; $150 per person. Entrance to all other events is $25 per person.
