More About
In addition to this Friday's concert, four monks of the Drepung Gomang will create a sand mandala during their visit to Miami. On Wednesday, December 1, at 10:00 a.m. the monks assemble at the Miami Beach Garden Center and begin joining millions of grains of colored sand on a flat platform over a period of five days. The mandala represents the world in its divine form while mapping out a process of enlightenment that can be read by initiates. On Sunday, December 5, at 4:00 p.m., the mandala will be destroyed to symbolize the impermanence of all that exists. The mandala is part of the Miami Beach Orchid Show, from December 3 through December 5, for which there is a three-dollar admission charge.
The Drepung Gomang monks perform at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 3, at the Miami Beach Community Church, Drexel Avenue and Lincoln Road. Tickets cost $15. For more information call 305-672-5202.
