One of South Beach's prime spots for clublife will finally see some action in the form of Level (1235 Washington Ave., Miami Beach). But don't worry: Just because the massive joint is partly owned by the same folks who run Fort Lauderdale's World Mardi Gras, it doesn't mean every Billy Bob from Broward will invade the Beach. Nightlife and fashion mogul Gerry Kelly (the same guy who made the scenes at Bash, Shadow Lounge, and Bar Room) is at the helm. The club will be open every Thursday through Saturday, and will feature occasional national concerts (Godsmack is scheduled for November 24). As for opening nights this week, Thursday is a private affair, Friday is the debut of a weekly gay-oriented party Federation/1235, and on Saturday comes the public unveiling, with hosts Ocean Drive magazine and DJ Boris. The party starts at 10:00 each night. Cover charge on Friday is $20 in advance and $25 at the door; no advance tickets are available for Saturday, and the cover charge is $20. From grand-opening galas to sad closings, Coconut Grove's old-time roadhouse the Taurus (3540 Main Hwy.) is shutting its doors after Saturday night. The Taurus had live music six nights per week and offered a nice respite from the hyperinsanity of the Grove. The music starts at 9:30 p.m. with In the Groove. If you think the bar's absence is going to leave a gaping hole in your heart as well, show up on Monday and buy part of the place when they auction everything within its walls.
