Clubland has some treats for trick week. Perhaps the most provocative gathering is the Beach Witch Project, taking place Sunday in the Botanical Gardens behind Miami Beach's convention center. That's where club staples Alan Roth, Sean Saladino, and Michael Tronn, along with Ocean Drive magazine, will try to re-create the jumpy edginess of that other project that goes by the name of Blair. If the baleful stick figures and things that go bump in the woods don't rustle the spirits, there's always the open bar. The party starts at 9:00 p.m. Tickets cost $40 in advance, $50 at the door. Call 305-531-7406. If you'd rather check out a monster sax player, the place to be is Champagne's (1060 NE 79th St.) grand-opening party on Saturday night. The new jazz club will feature saxophonist Jesse Jones, Jr., and his quartet every Friday and Saturday. A Miami native, Jones has lived through South Florida's roller-coaster jazz scene. He says today's club action doesn't compare with the scene of the Sixties and Seventies, but he hopes Champagne's will change that. "We're going to bring something back to the community, and we're really proud of that," Jones says. "The club's going to be strictly jazz: high end, but not stuffy." And, according to Jones, being jazz culture's ambassador means more than blowing a mean horn; you also have to look the part. "Man, one gig I had this bassist show up in tennis shoes." Jones recalls. "I sent him home and we played without a bass that night. I like playing in a tuxedo, but all the players will be lookin' good; it's a part of jazz." The party starts at 6:00 p.m.; cover charge is $20. Call 305-754-6036.
