Churchill's Hideaway and Chaos

Live music may be limping 'round these parts, but at least local musicians look out for their own in times of trouble. At old rock and roll suturer Churchill's Hideaway (5501 NE 2nd Ave., 305-757-1807) this Saturday, area bands stage the first of two benefit shows (the second is at Tobacco Road on Saturday, September 18) in memory of musician and drum-tech Delvis Machado. Proceeds from the shows will benefit Machado's pregnant fiancée, Donna Kropat. Machado was killed recently in a freak car accident, and left behind an ensemble of supporting rockers. More than ten bands (see Churchill's listing in "Clubs" for details) will play on in honor of the former Resin member. Starting time is 7:00 p.m. and a minimum five-dollar donation is requested.

Anyone for tennis, and Beach clublife, should take court at Chaos (743 Washington Ave., Miami Beach, 305-674-7350) this Thursday for the 1999 U.S. Open party. One of the hosts, Sports Book Modeling Agency, will make sure the beautiful-people quota is sufficiently filled, and representatives from Tennis magazine will be on hand to help you distinguish the racket pros from club mavens. Spinmasters Sweet Peach and Luis Diaz will make sure everybody keeps their grooves on. The party starts at 11:00 p.m. Call for cover-charge information.
