Say the word "hoochie" and everyone pretty much knows what you mean: A person, usually a woman, with "loose" morals. In the old days, hoochies were known as sluts and every social circle always had one. Leora Tanenbaum knows the infamy of being called a slut. Labeled one in high school, she went on to write an article about sluts for Seventeen magazine. That led to her writing the book SLUT! Growing up Female with a Bad Reputation, for which she interviewed women ranging from adolescent to senior-citizen age, many of whom boast of attaining high achievements. (No, they didn't sleep their way to the top!) Tanenbaum, a freelance writer for the Nation, Ms., and Newsday, reads from and discusses her book tonight at 8:00 at Books & Books, 296 Aragon Ave., Coral Gables. Admission is free. It's not officially summer yet, but you wouldn't know that by the ultrahigh afternoon temperatures. That's why we thank our lucky stars that One Funkin' Summer, a concert cosponsored by the Clevelander Hotel and this very organization, featuring locals Raw B Jae and the Liquid Funk and DJs Chucky Brown and LNR, takes place under the stars tonight at 9:00 at the Clevelander Hotel, 1020 Ocean Dr., Miami Beach.
