Into the Night

With South Beach undergoing a strange summer regeneration of sorts, new parties are springing up all over while old (in SoBe terms) haunts are still hanging on. On Friday, Society Hill (627 Washington Ave., Miami Beach, 534-9993) hosts a big blowout to celebrate its glorious first year in existence -- no small feat in this transient club mecca. The party's usual Friday night madness will be pumped up with an open bar from 10:00 to 11:30 and DJ Laz-A-Looney spinning fun retro and disco hits. The next night, Saturday, head down a couple blocks to Amnesia (136 Collins Ave., Miami Beach, 531-5535) where promoter/musician/man-about-town Aramis Lorie introduces La Movida, a night of Latin rock and Eurodance rhythms spun by international mix master DJ Fabio Vallebona. The party starts at 11:00 and continues until the last cha-cha kid goes home. If all goes well on the grand opening night, look for La Movida every Saturday -- same place, same time -- adding a much needed Latin tinge to the club scene. For more weekend revelry, stop by the old Pacha; it's opening up as the new Bikini Club (155 Lincoln Rd., 841-6888). It's all about dancing at Bikini, with Friday night bringing us "Sex on the Beach," a nasty little night where drinking and dancing can lead to, well, sex -- and who knows what other sins? "La Boom" rolls in on Saturday night straight from Cancun, Mexico, with DJ Pete Moreno spinning retro, high energy, and disco tunes into the wee hours for a restless crowd. "La Boom" is big on fashion, hosting several agency parties chock full of beautiful people. Both nights adhere to a strict New York-style door policy so be sure to look the part; with practice, you might just find yourself on the other side of the velvet ropes.
